Special visit to KEITH TYSON’S LARGE FIELD ARRAY

Group visit from Helsinki on Friday, 15 August from 8:00 to 16:30 OR from 13:00 to 21:30.

The artwork is located in Sarvisalo, Loviisa.

Keith Tyson’s comprehensive solo exhibition Universal Symphony opened at Serlachius in Mänttä on 24 May.

On the occasion of Keith Tyson’s major exhibition, Serlachius are happy to collaborate with Zabludowicz Collection and offer view Keith Tyson’s unique installation Large Field Array, 2006-7 as on the island of Sarvisalo. This is a rare chance to experience the magic of Sarvisalo and the works by important and young international artists installed across the wonderful landscape of the archipelago.

Founded in 1994 by Poju and Anita Zabludowicz, the Zabludowicz Collection is a dynamic and growing collection of contemporary art spanning four decades, from the 1970s to today. Across three locations on Sarvisalo the Zabludowicz Collection has installed artworks and initiated an international residency programme for invited artists.

Curated displays of ceramic artworks, video, paintings and scultpures by some of the most exciting names in contemporary art are on display outdoors or in conserved and converted buildings and barns. Artists include Oscar Tuazon, Franz West, Matthew Day Jackson, Eva Rothschild and many more. This year Zabludowicz Collection will unveil two new installations: Crystalis, a sculptural grotto by British artist Candida Powell-Williams, and Non-Fiction, an outdoor sculpture by British born, New York Based artist Jesse Wine.

Large Field Array is named after the Very Large Array, a field of radio telescopes in New Mexico. Very Large Array focuses on one spot from multiple viewpoints to give us a clearer picture of the universe. Similarly, Tyson’s monumental work combines almost 300 separate sculptural forms into a single ‘Field Array’ which for Tyson operates as a gigantic experiential lens for viewing some of the invisible and fundamental forces that make up our reality.

Until 2016, this vast installation had never been seen in its entirety, with the unfinished group first shown in 2006 at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, travelling to the De Pont Museum of Contemporary Art, Tilburg, the Netherlands and Pace Wildenstein, New York in 2007.

Zabludowicz Collection is proud to present the first complete installation of Large Field Array. This single work by British artist Keith Tyson is installed the Zabludowicz Collection’s first purpose-built exhibition space designed by Jukka Siren and Siren Arkkitehdit Oy and was unveiled in 2016.
